Heart Words FAQ

Everything parents ask about Heart Words — how it works, what it costs, and how to get started.

Is Heart Words free?

Yes. Heart Words is completely free. Create an account, set up a profile for your child, and start practicing right away.

What ages is it for?

Heart Words has word sets for pre-k (ages 3–4), kindergarten (ages 4–5), and 1st grade (ages 5–7). Each profile is locked to one age group.

How long should practice sessions be?

Five minutes is the sweet spot. Short, daily sessions are more effective than long, occasional ones. The app is designed for quick rounds.

Does it work on iPad and phones?

Yes. Heart Words works on any device with a web browser — iPhones, iPads, Android phones, tablets, laptops, and desktop computers.

What are Heart Words?

Heart Words are high-frequency words that don't follow regular phonics rules — words like "was," "the," "could," and "there." Kids need to learn these "by heart" through repeated practice.

How does mastery tracking work?

When your child gets a word correct 5 times in a row, it's marked as mastered. Parents can see mastered words in the results section and choose to exclude them from future practice.
